Charmingly unspoilt by modern high-rise developments and dramatically beautiful, Lanzarote is like nowhere else on earth. Volcanic eruptions over two centuries ago shaped the spectacular landscape as it is today, leaving some parts barren and sparse, and others lush and green, producing a surprising number of locally grown fruit and vegetables. Lanzarote is famous for its miles of clean, golden beaches, fringed by the clear, warm blue-green waters of the Atlantic, ideal for scuba diving, snorkelling or swimming all year round.
There are endless hours of sunshine from a clear blue sky, and pleasant breezes cool the island during the hottest summer months. Consequently, it has one of the best and most even climates in the world. Average daytime temperatures ranging from about 21°C in January to 29°C in August, combined with incredibly low annual rainfall (just 150mm) all goes to make Lanzarote a perfect all year-round holiday destination. It is just 4 hours flight time from the Netherlands and UK and in the same time zone, so there's no jet lag.
There are many fascinating places to visit including the Timanfaya National Park (south of Lanzarote)– 50 square kilometres of volcanic landscape, craters and lava fields. The unique and spectacular visual experience and guided tour should not be missed and also the opportunity to dine at El Diablo restaurant on top of a volcano, where the food is cooked with the heat from underground molten lava. If you’re more adventurous you can tour the mountains on a camel trek. Lanzarote is a great place just to relax or to be as active as you like. Almost every imaginable activity is available, including: Sailing, fishing, golf, tennis, karting (near the airport), horse-riding at Lanzarote A caballo (south of lanzarote), scuba diving like going to the underwater museum Atlantico, cycling, hiking, climbing, off-road driving and a wide range of water sports like surfing at Farmara beach. There are so many things you can see in Lanzarote. You can take a visit at the cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua in the north. Also the garden of cactus witch is very beautiful to see. You can drive to Papagayo beach (south of Lanzarote) and enjoy the small beaches and a few restaurants. In Teguise you can visit the biggest market on a sunday. Very interesting also is Cesar Manrique house museum and the bodega's you can visit in the la geria aera in the south-west of Lanzarote. Here you tast the delicious lanzarote wines and you can even have some food with it too. It's quit an experience to watch the grapes grow and develop to those lovely Lanzarote wines wine.
The peace, natural beauty and tranquillity of Lanzarote, together with year round sunshine make this special island an ideal holiday location for everyone.
